The Women of Fly Fishing

I introduced fishing to my children as soon as they held a fishing rod on their own. I am glad I did that. For some reason, my daughter enjoyed it the most. Over the years, she learned the art of fly fishing. She is proficient in her ways. Whenever I went fly fishing, she would go.

Fly fishing is a primarily male-dominated sport but I truly admire women who are into the sport. Women like Joan Wulff, Katie Cahn, Jen Ripple (DUN Magazine), April Vokey, Cassie Spurling, and Abbi Bagwell are just a few of the others who are very proficient and passionate about the science and art of angling. The majority of the time, they are more graceful and accurate with their cast and presentation. As we know it, fly fishing requires grace more than muscle.

There is one thing that sticks out in their story; Most, if not all of them have learned the art of fishing by hanging around with their dads. It reminds me of my daughter and the countless days we spent in the water together. We developed a bond that will last a lifetime.

As the fall season deepens, it opens up many fly fishing opportunities to those who seek it. It’s time to head out to your favorite stream and bring on your fall fly fishing game!
